George Mussi, Jr. is a retired 30 Year U.S. Marine Corps and Vietnam Veteran. He served from 1955 – 1985 and attained the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major.
Born and raised in Liverpool, NY, Sgt. Maj. Mussi enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after his high school graduation. He served at posts in Iwakuni, Japan and Bermuda.
Sgt. Maj. Mussi was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V, along with numerous service awards. These include the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
During his last years of service, Sgt. Maj. Mussi served as the recruiting sergeant major for both the Cleveland and Cincinnati recruiting stations of Ohio.
Upon his retirement, Sgt. Maj. Mussi worked for the city of Columbus, first as the street operations manager and then as deputy director for the late Mayor Dana G. Rinehart (all while attending The Ohio State University).
During his spare time, Sgt. Maj. Mussi is a life member of the American Legion Department of Ohio, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans Charity and the Marine Corps League. He was recently appointed to the Ohio War Orphans Scholarship Board for a four-year term.
George and his beloved wife, Rosalie, have been married for 60 years. They have three children and four grandchildren.
