Ohio personal injury attorney obtains $620,000 verdict for car crash victim
A Clermont County jury returned a verdict in the amount of $620,000 against the John R. Jurgensen Co. and its driver after hearing evidence during a weeklong trial in the Clermont County Court of Common Pleas. It is believed to be one of the largest verdicts in Clermont County for a car accident case. Judge Richard Ferenc presided over the trial that involved a February 24, 2006 car crash that left Michael McRoberts with a serious debilitating lower back injury. The Sardinia, Ohio man was represented by Elk & Elk’s personal injury attorney, Craig McLaughlin.
McLaughlin’s client was on his way to work on I-275 in Union Township when the driver of the John R. Jurgensen Co. truck negligently clipped the back of another car during a lane change. That car spun out and struck McRoberts’ car on the passenger side. McRoberts suffered two herniated disks in his lower back that ultimately required surgery and left him unable to continue employment as a factory worker.
The Defendants admitted they were at fault for causing the collision, but denied McRoberts was seriously hurt in the crash. “Clermont County drivers have to watch where they are going when they are driving or they can seriously hurt someone,” said McLaughlin. “If the driver had just followed the safety rules of the road that are put in place to protect other motorists, then this whole tragedy could have been avoided. This money will help Mike provide for his family and get the medical care he is going to need in the future. Mike and his family are forever grateful to the jurors who held the defendants accountable for all of the harms and losses they caused.”
