The Ohio Lawmen – Winners on and off the field
Law firm sponsors award-winning police softball team
Elk & Elk is a proud sponsor of the Ohio Lawmen, a nationally ranked police softball team. In addition to their numerous championship titles on the field, the team has also established itself as a 501(C)(3) charitable organization that hosts fundraisers throughout the year. The players give back to the community through their work with the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center and various charities, including Wounded Warriors and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
On August 10th, the Lawmen won the East Side title in the inaugural Plain Dealer-Cleveland.com Softball Championship. Team Managers Brad Borowy and Ross Contipelli stopped by our office to present us with their hard-won trophy. Accepting the trophy were partners Arthur Elk and John O’Neil, who congratulated the men on their victory.
The Lawmen went on to battle West Side team Laria Softball for the Cleveland Championship, but came up short — losing 18-17. Although the defeat was disappointing, the Lawmen found a silver lining: The win allowed Laria to raise awareness of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. “The father of one of their players had just been diagnosed with ALS,” said Ross Contipelli, Assistant Manager of the Lawmen. “They had dedicated the game to him, so it’s fitting they got the win.”
The Lawmen will head to Las Vegas next, competing in the annual Police Softball World Series. For more information, or to donate to the Ohio Lawmen charity, contact the team at [email protected].
