How do Washington metropolitan drivers rank for driving safety?

When it comes to driving safety, where do drivers in Washington’s metropolitan areas (specifically Bellevue, Tacoma, and Seattle) rank?
According to Allstate Insurance’s America’s Best Drivers report for 2018, not very well.
Allstate ranked drivers in the most populous 200 cities in the U.S. based on how often insurance claims were filed in that city.
Drivers in Bellevue, Tacoma, and Seattle were near the top of the list – meaning that drivers in those cities were found to file a higher-than-average number of insurance claims.
Here’s how our cities ranked:
- Bellevue: 157/200
- Tacoma: 167/200
- Seattle: 179/200
Here are the results from 2017:
- Bellevue: 173/200
- Tacoma: 172/200
- Seattle: 181/200
While these Seattle-area cities have seen slight improvement, overall these areas are ranked very poorly.
Representing drivers in the eastern part of the state, Spokane ranked a bit better, coming in at 103/200.
In comparison, the top 5 (best) ranked cities in the U.S. are:
- Brownsville, Texas
- Kansas City, Kansas
- Boise, Idaho
- Huntsville, Alabama
- Madison, Wisconsin
The 5 lowest-ranked cities in the U.S. are:
- Baltimore, Maryland
- Boston, Massachusetts
- Washington, D.C.
- Worcester, Massachusetts
- Glendale, California
