What fun activities do you have planned for your family this summer? As with many parents, you probably have countless ideas for ways you can keep your kids busy during summer vacation.

For example, family trips to a theme park can be an incredible adventure, although there are many risks involved. But in addition to scheduling activities, there are some things you can do to keep your children safe while having fun.

3 ways you can increase your children’s chances of staying safe

When you take your children to a theme park, you’ll want to use plenty of sunscreen, stay hydrated and take breaks throughout the day.

Luckily, in terms of the risk of injury on an amusement park ride, your chances are about one in 19 million. However, the threat of injury may be all around you.

To help keep your children safe at a theme park:

  • Be extra careful around water. Your child may be a confident swimmer, but with the number of people crowding into a pool or water feature at a theme park, there are many unknowns. Even if they wear a life jacket, you should stay within reach of your child.
  • Speak up. If you notice a potential safety hazard at a theme park, communicate your concern with an employee. While they may not be the person responsible for fixing the situation, they can call for someone to take care of it while they perform their assigned duties.
  • Follow the rules. If your child is not big enough for a ride, redirect them to another option which would be safer for them, and always keep your entire body inside the ride.

By remaining diligent and adhering to the park’s regulations, you can create some lasting family memories. But if your child suffers an injury due to negligence at a theme park, you might want to explore your legal options.
