For all people, car accidents can be devastating. However, the consequences of a crash can be especially hard for some, such as young children and their family members. Sadly, many young children have been hurt or lost their lives in motor vehicle collisions. To make things even worse, some of these injuries and fatalities could have been prevented if drivers had been operating their vehicles responsibly and parents had made sure their children were seated in car seats properly.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 660 children who were 12 years old or younger passed away in a traffic accident during 2015. Moreover, among those who lost their lives in traffic accidents, 35 percent were not restrained properly, out of accidents in which restraint information was gathered. In addition to the loss of life, many young children are also hurt in wrecks. In 2014, over 121,000 kids 12 or younger sustained injuries in motor vehicle wrecks, the CDC says.
Sometimes, an accident cannot be prevented, such as instances where an innocent driver is struck by someone who is under the influence of alcohol. That said, there are ways you can reduce the chances of your child being injured or killed in a crash, such as making sure they are restrained appropriately.
If your child was hurt in an accident, you might be wondering what your options are or how you can help your child recover. It is important to thoroughly examine all relevant matters and look into any additional options, such as taking your case to court.
